Like Mrs. Haywood, Mr. Newton focuses his practice on defending the rights of property owners in eminent domain cases. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy. He received his J.D. and M.B.A. from Campbell University, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the law school and Summa Cum Laude from the business school. Immediately after obtaining his law and business degrees, Mr. Newton served as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Stephani W. Humrickhouse, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
During his undergraduate and legal education, Mr. Newton studied all aspects of property ownership and the legal rights that all individuals and businesses have as private property owners. He gained a deep understanding of and appreciation for private property rights, and as a result he takes great pride in defending the rights of the property owners he represents.
Since joining the firm, Mr. Newton has represented all types of owners and businesses in eminent domain proceedings, including real estate developers, multifamily and mixed-use properties, convenience stores, fast food restaurants, manufacturers, non-profit organizations, churches, farmers and homeowners. In addition to his eminent domain practice, Mr. Newton represents property owners in land use and zoning matters as well as owners engaged in real estate and property rights litigation.
